Bellflower & Bloom: It started with a Daisy

Nature has always been my happy place. There’s nothing more wonderful than the first signs of spring, the full bloom of summer flowers, the kaleidoscope of autumn’s colours, and the slower, reflective pace of winter. But beyond its beauty, nature has also been my refuge.

For much of my twenties and all my thirties, I longed to become a mother. IVF, frozen embryos that didn’t survive, a miscarriage, and finally, at 41, being told I would not be able to have children—it left me devastated. I had spent years waiting for parenthood, only to find myself lost, unsure of my path, and, at times, profoundly lonely.

Through all those weeks, months, and years of hoping, I was constantly drawn to the outdoors. Little glimmers of nature—birds singing at dawn, the scent of rain on the earth, sunlight dancing through the trees—brought me moments of peace. On the hardest days, I found myself longing to be surrounded by the forest, where the quiet felt like a gentle embrace.

Then, in December, during a nature connection and mindfulness retreat, I spoke openly about my grief for the first time, in a room filled with love and strangers. In that space, I experienced something profound—true connection, a deep sense of community. I realised I wasn’t alone. Every single person in that room was carrying their own story, their own loss, yet we held space for one another with compassion and understanding.

Later, as I wandered the retreat’s grounds, I stumbled upon a single daisy—an unusual sight in the midst of winter. Daisies have always held deep meaning for me. In folklore, it is said that when an infant passed away, the deities would sprinkle daisies upon the earth as a sign of love and remembrance, a gentle message to grieving parents that their child was not forgotten.

As I gazed at this small but radiant bloom—a joyful reminder of my own child—something shifted. In that quiet moment, I felt a sense of clarity. My beautiful daisy was showing me the way.

That moment was the seed of something bigger. Maybe my purpose was to bring people together—those who had also felt loss, those who longed for connection—and create a nature-led community where we could lift each other up. A space where, in return for all she gives us, we could also give back to nature.

"The daisy that started it all".
"The daisy that started it all".

And so, Bellflower & Bloom was born.

The bellflower symbolises gratitude, and my vision is to cultivate a beautiful community where we honour nature for all she does for us while sharing our deep love of the natural world.

Let’s also use this space to share and take action:

🌸 Is there a local animal in need of rescue? Share ways we can help.

🌸 Fundraising for conservation? Let’s support each other’s efforts.

🌸 A tree-planting event happening nearby? Let’s spread the word.

This is a place where we not only lift each other up but also give back to the Earth—our shared sanctuary.
